Hawaii Ka'u - Castaneda Micro-lot

Price:
$24.95

Product Description

A sweet coffee that is unusually fruity for a Hawaiian coffee. The typical Hawaiian coffee we carry is chocolaty with delicate floral and candy notes. While this coffee still has the smooth chocolaty background, its floral notes are subdued and the fruit notes dominate - more akin to a natural processed African coffee than a Hawaiian coffee. Aromas of cherry and bubblegum with flavors including milk chocolate and cherry with a winey acidity.

Background Info

Both Leonard and his brother Joseph farm coffee in the cloudrest area of Hawaii's big island. Collectively, the Castaneda family has 10 acres of coffee. They grow mostly Typica and Red Caturra (coffee varieties), but also have small amounts of yellow Caturra, Red Catuai, and Red Bourbon. Leonard pulps, ferments, and dries the coffee in front of his house in Pahala (as almost all the growers do). Leonard has put a lot of hard work this season into improving the quality of his coffees and it is showing quite clearly in the cup. Pulped natural coffees are something Leonard began experimenting with early last season. He did not produce much of it. Paradise Roasters is the first to carry this coffee and the first to represent a single farm lot from Leonard Castaneda.
