Background Info
Colombia is often synonymous at times with quality coffee, but this is partly because of good marketing efforts by the Colombian government. Truthfully, Colombian coffee is rarely anything but average, which is unfortunate because Colombia is quite capable of producing fantastic coffees. Recently there have been efforts by exporters within Colombia to create an appellation program as well as distinguished boutique lots. As a result of this time and energy, some delightful coffees have been coming out of Colombia lately. Our Las Frutas De Popoyan is one of these coffees.
Las Frutas is a blend of coffees from 12 farmers in the Cauca and Huila districts near the city of Popoyan. Most of the farmers whose coffee we used are members of the Las Vegas Cooperative Union. We would like to Thank and congratulate the following farmers for producing the excellent coffees we used to craft our 2007 Las Frutas De Popoyan:
| Anuar Mosquera |
Armando Noscue |
Canoas |
| David Guerrero |
Elacio Andrade |
Jaime Quintero |
| Jose Elliuth Muñoz |
La Maria |
Nilson Arciniegas |
| Nodier Alonso Andrade |
Ricardo Barragan |
Vicente Quintero |
We cupped dozens of lots while developing this coffee, and we are sure you’ll enjoy the result of this effort.
Roastmaster Comments By R. Miguel Meza
A lush, well rounded cup that tastes ripe and clean. The cup has an effervescent sweetness reminiscent of sugar cane or deramera sugar. Whispers of orange, rose blossoms, prunes and dark chocolate compete for the attention of your senses. A great everyday coffee.
