Background Info
Truly great examples of the Yirgacheffe region are hard to find, but this one is a shining example of what they can be. Yirgacheffe is a small premier region in the Gedeo district of the greater Sidamo region. But even in this small growing area there are variations in elevation and climate. Konga Cooperative is a group of over 1600 garden farmers from the heart of the Gedeo district just south of the sleepy town of Yirgacheffe. The coffees they produce are both Fair Trade and Organic certified. This lot marks a milestone for Ethiopia being the first container of coffee from Ethiopia to be vacuum-packaged as opposed to bagged in traditional burlap sacks. Vacuum packaging helps protect the coffee from the elements during transit and storage. As a result this late arrival looks and tastes more vibrant than most of the coffees shipped in burlap that arrived much earlier in the year. Fair-Trade Certified.

Classic Yirgacheffe aromatics- lemon, ginger and jasmine. A surprisingly full-bodied coffee for a Yirgacheffe . The lively citrus and floral notes soften as the cup cools into a pleasing mix of milk chocolate and candied orange. One of the most complete Yirgacheffe coffees I have tasted in years.

A couple days after there’s small hints of berries in the background that’s fronted by a grain-like taste, supported by a full body and a good acidity. This is a very interesting Yirgacheffe. It seems t...
