Background Info
Sumatra is the largest island in the Indonesian archipelago. Coffee was introduced there by the Dutch in the 18th century near the scenic Lake Tawar. Despite being one of the oldest producing regions of coffee in the world it is perhaps the most mysterious and least understood. The environment, varietals, processing method, and supply chain there are unique in the coffee world. Sumatra provides a great environment for growing coffee but an extremely problematic one for post harvest handling. The constant rain and humidity there make producing clean, defect free coffee a seemingly insurmountable challenge. Coffee in Sumatra is grown entirely by small landholders. Most farmers grow 300-500 coffee trees on 2-3 acres of land. Coffee is grown along with cabbage, tomatoes, chilies, and other cash crops. While most Sumatran coffees are defect ridden and don’t truly meet specialty coffee grading standards, this coffee stands out in not only being defect-free but full of character.
From the same Producer as our Sumatra Lake Tawar, this coffee is a blend of coffees from the Dolok Sanggul and Lintong Nithuta regions near Lake Toba .

This coffee is simply stunning. Intensely sweet - almost pineapple syrup like. Great acidity and body with an herb, smoke, and citrus laced finish.
